Suzie Brown and Danelle Leverett met during a songwriters gathering and hit it off almost immediately. It wasn’t long before they put their attention towards a duo they called The JaneDear Girls with a set of tunes they were sure would find a home on country radio.
Two girls, guitars and country songs... how could it go wrong? Well only The JaneDear Girls would be able to answer that, because their debut is turgid at best. You would expect that the sheen and expectation of Nashville itself had a fair bit to do with it, with producer John Rich being a serial offender in these matters.
Songs like Sing Along with trite lyrics and forgettable melody are a good part of the reason why many people can not stand country music. Shotgun Girl comes across as so contrived and owes so little to the genres forefathers, it is the kind of dross that would have Cash turning in his grave.
There is no doubt that Brown and Leverett can sing, but when armed with an ordinary bunch of tunes such as these, it counts for little. The JaneDear Girls... more like the Oh Dear Girls.
